Boggy Tank 11/07

This will be the last time I visit Boggy Tank in 2007

***********************************************************************

***********************************************************

****************************************

10 DAYS AT BOGGY TANK
AND I'M GOING HOME AFTER THIS PAGE.

Camping out in the forest is really nice but, enough is enough.

*********************************************************************************

I'VE SAVED THE BEST FOR THE LAST

OR AT LEAST I THINK IT'S THE BEST INASMUCH AS HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BIRD BEFORE.
LET ALONE BEEN ABLE TO PHOTOGRAPH IT.

I was just thinking about packing up and heading back to Homesville when a slew of feathered critters flew in.
Looking the field over I said to my self, not much that I haven't already photographed.

It was then my eyes zeroed in on a black bird at the water's edge across the pond.
I figured I would photograph the bird then put down the camera and try to find my binoculars.

The bird was some 150 feet away, lens 600mm, camera D70s Nikon. Image cropped about 50%..

Looks like a Woodpecker family to me.
When photographing the birds I never consult the bird guide book I figure I'll time for that when I get home.

Since the birds can hear the camera shutter when it functions I only took one photo.
I figured it would surly fly in a little closer and maybe perch on my pile on sticks I had put at the edge of the water, all the other birds were doing just that.

And in a few minutes it did just that.

*********************************************

It's getting closer.

************************************************

Stopping just short of the stick pile it looked directly at me.

**************************************************

And finally it went to the pile of sticks at the water's edge

I would guess by now you know this is a Willaimson's Sapsucker

***********************************************************

And then another one appeared.

I had no idea what this one was either but later found out it was the female of the species.

***********************************

One more shot and she was gone.

************************************************

I would guess the Western Bluebirds are all talking and wondering just what kind of bird this is

********************************************

****************************************

I believe it's getting ready to fly off.

*********************************************

I was right.

I would guess by now you know this is a Willaimson's Sapsucker
