Arizona Wild Bird Photos

NO WHERE DESERT ARIZONA
An experiment in attracting birds to seeds & water in a remote, desolate desert area.

While incubating & hatching this idea in my small brain,
I was trying to find an isolated desert area many miles from any civilization,
or, as far as possible from any towns - cities - populaces and or vehicle traffic.
Also a couple of other criteria must be met.
No birds visible for at least one to two days of constant viewing.
No water within at least 20 to 30 miles under normal conditions.

*************************************

Hopefully I have found just such a place.
So far, & after one & a half months, I haven't seen, or had any vehicles find me.
More than likely it is because I always take a broom and sweep
my tire tracks when I go in and when I come out.
I have found that the 4 wheelers like to follow other
folks tire tracks on the desert just to see where they go.

The only thing I am going to show here is what I attracted to the water that I have put out and the seed.

After setting up a 5 gallon chicken watering devise, a dripping water devise, and several seed feeding areas, all was not touched for the first 2 weeks.
I knew this was going to be a long drawn out situation.

*****************************

Third week. 05/15/2002 & it's getting hotter every day.
Seed started to disappear and the water started to diminish. I was just going out on week ends but by the next week end (05/18/02) all of the water was gone and every seed had been picked up.

Quickly replenishing all; I took up a viewing spot a great distance away to watch the area.

Next week end I brought my cameras. I also had to add an 8 gallon tank of water to the 5 gallon tank I all ready had on site.

By this time I had gone through approximately 50 pounds of wild bird seed - 20 pounds of Black Oil Sun flower seed - 10 pounds of Millet seed - and a few pounds of in the shell peanuts.

I don't think only birds were eating the seeds and drinking the water.
I did not find any Javelina or Coyote tracks around the area so I thought it
must be some other critter(s) doing all of the eating.

From here on I will attempt to do a picture story of my
NO WHERE DESERT ARIZONA experiment.

This is where I sit to view any happenings.

I have not built a blind as of yet.

***********************************

I brought in many dead branches for the birds to perch on, if they ever come.

***************************

I used flower pot holders to put seed in. I also scattered some on the ground.

*********************************

I have since replaced this unit with a 5 gallon dripping water unit.
Had to fill this one two many times a day. Plus I couldn't regulate the dripping.

My first viewed visitor.

I bought an automotive electric fuel pump and made a small fountain.
However, I find the birds like the dripping water the best.

There is going to be a time lag in posting the images here because
of my having to travel to this spot plus doing my other bird photography.
