Harris' Antelope Squirrel
Ammospermophilus barrisii

9 inches plus to approx. 10 inches in length

Map and range not to any scale & not absolute.

**************************************************

Many people confuse this Squirrel with the Chipmunk.

One of its most distinctive marks is a single white stripe on its sides.
Found mostly in the low deserts in areas with little vegetation.
It gets its water mainly from the food it eats.
But as you will see in the photos below,
it will drink from almost any water container it may run across

****************************

When out in the desert, note all of the small holes under the bushes. Many of these are the entrances to the Antelope Squirrel's home. If you will not move just a spell, one or two, just might come out.

Note the predominate white stripe on its side.

**********************************************

There are two things to note in this photo.
First, how well it blends in with the surroundings.
Second, the black stripes on each side of its tail.

***************************

As I have said many times in the past, if you are going to photograph wild life
always try to get an image from as many angles as you can.

**********************************

As I had said earlier, this Squirrel gets most of its water from the food it eats,
but, when I put down a dish of water it started drinking profusely.

It only took this Squirrel approximately 2 minutes or less to find this dish of water after I had set it down.

*****************************************

AH, there's nothing nicer than a short nap after drinking your fill of cool clean water.

They would use their front feet to push out an elongated hole/depression in the ground to lay in.
Maybe it felt cooler to them than lying on the top surface of the desert floor?

May I have this dance my dear
