Arizona Wild Bird Photos

Well, the rains came, and the rains stopped, and now it looks like before the rains came, or at least it starting to look that way.

First it was bees, we had zillions on them. They did not seem to be in an angry mood, in fact they got on me heave duty like but did not sting me. However, who wants to be covered with bees, friendly or not? So, I just threw out some feed and water and got H_LL outa there. Waiting a couple of weeks for the bees to move I went back. I don't know what's worse. bees or flies. Now there about a zillion flies per square foot of air. My fellow desert rat says every year when the Chinch Weed blooms the flies swarm, and the Chinch Weed is in bloom now. I tore off a large piece of netting and put it over my head so I could put out the water and feed. When I went back to get into my all white car it had changed color to all black fly color. There must have been a 100-zillion flies on it. I opened the trunk and got out my repellent and started spraying my car. After using the entire can I was able to reenter my car only letting a few thousand flies in with me.

What's NEXT out here any way, Dinosaurs??

The Chinch Weeds

It was a heave over cast day so the yellow does not show up well.
The entire desert floor was covered with these very small flowers.

No sun makes for dull photos.

The road up. You would not want to have a flat here. In fact you I don't even want to get out of the car here.

White arrow is the road.

Red arrow is the road.

If you don't know what these cacti are, that means you have had no contact with them, that also means you are much luckier than I.

These are Chollas pronounced (Choy-ya). Bad-bad-bad stuff to get near. Their spines/needles/thorns are like fish hooks, once in you don't get them out. So far I haven't found much of any thing they can not penetrate including my tires & shoes. I did finally find 4 six-ply mud & snow light truck tires and so far (knock on wood for me) they have got through these tires. (knock-knock).

The desert is as harsh and dangerous and non forgiving as it is beautiful.

So, if you decide to visit a desert please be knowledgeable of how to traverse it.

So, the flies didn't get me, and the bees didn't get me, and if all goes well I'll make another trip to
