Arizona Wild Bird Photos

IN NO WHERE DESERT ARIZONA

02/22/2004

OH, WHEN IS SUMMER COMING?

Dark ominous clouds hung over No Where today,
occasionally getting snagged on the mountains tops ripping them open creating
short burst of much needed rain on the desert below.

Temp. 49/50*, wind out of the northwest at approx. 7 to 10 MPH.

Bring back those 115* days, I'll never complain again :-) :-) till it happens :-) :-).

The purple cast to the sky was quite beautiful, and this was the way it really looked.

Many thanks to my friend R.J. who ask;
what kind of tree is that in the upper right of the photo.
I did not know but found they are Joshua trees (Yucca brevifolia).
I had no idea we had these trees less than a 100 miles northwest of the Phoenix area.

********************************

Replenished all of the seed, oranges, & suet blocks and started to leave.

Just them old Mumps Murphy and friend appeared and started eating the seed I had just thrown out on the ground for the Sparrows and Finches. They never got close enough to get a photo of both so I put them together in one image. I had not seen these Black-tailed Jacks for quite some time and wondered just what had happen to them.

Looking west out the blind.

The weather didn't seem to deter the Quail and Finches, they were out in great numbers.

I have often wondered just how many seeds there were in 25 pounds of bird seed.
You may rest assured that I have no intension of ever trying to count them,
I am just curious because it doesn't seem to take the birds very long to pick/peck them all up.
