Arizona Wild Bird Photos
IN NO WHERE DESERT ARIZONA
May 16, 2004
************************************************
There are many large images here, please wait for them to load.
It has now been two (2) years that I first set this No Where Desert Site up.
To stay or not to stay, is the important question for now.
The first year was a good one for photographing birds and other things.
So far this year not new birds have been sighted to photograph other than a few repeats from last year.
Oh, there's been a few exceptions, but not many.
I am not going to make any decisions just yet.
**************************************************************
On this May 16th. trip I did get an awakening JOLT.
It, that I call my No Where D/back Rattler Site Protector that is always lurking some where
on the site was so well camouflaged this trip I almost stepped on it.
Stepping on a D/back rattler is not the thing to do.
As a rule I always make an effort to find it before I start working around the site, but today I just plain missed it.
As it struck at me I dropped the bucket of bird seed I was carrying and it fell between me and the snake just in the nick of time.
It immediately coiled it self back into a neat small coil and just looked at me,
well, inasmuch as they don't see to well, it may just be waiting for me to make the next move, and I did,
I got the hell outa there in a blink.
**********************************
He sure does not look well hid in this photo, but I sure didn't see it until it struck at me.
I think it's ready to take a second shot at me, what do you think?? :-)
I got my make shift snake catcher out and got it to move on to a new and more distant location.
******************************************
I believe here in Arizona they call this a Coon-tailed rattler.
If your trying to count the rattles there 9.
I would guess-ta-mate it is between 3 and 4 feet long.
Well, now that my hart is beating rather fast, and I am all pumped up with adrenaline I had better get to work.
*****************************************
Now I know where all my seed is going.
Seems the cowbirds and White-winged Doves have moved in for the summer.
**********************************************
********************************
*************************************
The White-winged Doves & the Morning Doves just won't give up when it comes to getting a seed or two.
I guess it should read "I don't now about you 2 but I think I'll try those nice oranges he just put out."
***************************************************
Com-on, let's eat before those common Morning guys decide to fly over.
Suet and fresh oranges, how much better could it get.
*****************************************************
Mean while back at seed box.
*************************************************
***********************************************
*********************************************
You dummies up there keep on fighting that wire cage and we'll keep on pickin up the droppings.
***************************************************
In come the Flickers
Gilded that is.
I don't think these Flickers are supposed to be in this part of the state.
We are approximately 80 or so miles northwest of Phoenix.
******************************************************
****************************
These Flickers were very leery about drinking or any thing else, they spooked very easy.
*************************
It took her at least 4 or 5 times to get this close to water, but she did finally get her drink.
**************************
And then back up to the oranges she would go.
Inasmuch as there were 3 & some times 4 females here I could never tell which one was doing what.
****************************
I sure don't know she's saying or to whom, but she sure looks serious what ever she's doing.
********************************************
Now the Gambel's Quail??
Hey big boy, why don't you hop up there and sample those oranges and suet then let know if they are A-OK?
**********************************************
All sure looks good and taste good to me.
*****************************************
They're still at it!!
***************************
That's all folks.
