Some one went and cut my nest down babies and all.
What a bummer.
I had planned to show the Vermilion's feeding their chicks, however when I went back to photograph them a terrible thing had happened.
Some one had cut the branch down about a few inches behind the nest. Branch, nest and chicks were gone. 05/20/00. I had just been there 2 days before on the 18th. and there were 3 chicks in the nest, however I did not have my camera with me at that time.
This nest was located in the rest stop just south of Wickenburg on state road 60. It was opposite the garbage cans to the right as you pulled into the rest stop in the truck area. Nest height was 6 foot 10 inches above the ground at the edge of the grass.

Possible new nest being built by this pair no more than 20 feet from the one that got cut down.
