IN NO WHERE DESERT ARIZONA

Up-dated as of 09/04/03

AND THE ANIMALS WENT INTO THE ARK TWO BY TWO!

Now the waters are receding, I think?
At least the Doves we released have not come back to the ARK,
this must mean there is dry land some where.

I don't know here that ARK land but I susposed I will run across it some day.

Nope, I made a BOO BOO, it's opening day for the Dove season in Arizona.

So I guess we'll just have to look for dry land on our own.

********************************

5:45 AM on my way to No Where Arizona.
About 15 miles short of No Where and driving in about 8 inches of muddy water the sun was just peering
over the mountain tops to the East.

GEE; is that water ahead of the car?

I know there's a road under there some where, I think??

******************************************************

Looking behind me it looked like this.

**************************************

After finding a route around the water I did come upon this sight,
which I shall car following the DOG.

The dog is saying "come-on I'll show you the way"
Well, OK, I guess. If that dog starts swimming I am gonna stop and back out- there.

The one good thing about these roads is, they have a hard driveable surface under that water. (I hope)

************************************************

HUMMMM, this sure looks interesting.

My old car does have 4 wheels but only 2 are working, and they are in the back.
Not so good for this off road stuff.

Sometimes I get out and walk down the road to see if I should try it or not.

Well, here goes, if you don't see any more postings here, you'll know I didn't make it in and back out.

***************************************************

Well I did make it OK. After a good rain the desert really turns green.

I am on high ground now so driving will go much better.

Looks like more rain is on its way by the looks of those clouds on the horizon.

***************************************

***************************************

At the site at last. But the clouds are getting closer.

*********************************************

If you look at the cloud formations you can eventually see almost any shape there is.

In this next image I thought someone had dropped the BIG ONE off in the distance.

Looks like a mushroom to me, cloud that is.

With my small dig cam I have to either let the sky expose correctly or the ground.
When the brightness is this great the camera can not make both come out perfect.

********************************************

Well, I had better stop sky gazing and get to work before those drops start falling on me.

Refilling my water with 65 gallons was the first task, then repairing the PVC pipes to the automatic waters was next.

*********************************************************

I call this the ROCK pile. Am looking at it from the south.

#1 is a salt block I keep out for the rabbits & any thing else that wants to lick on it.

#2 seed try with nails around the edges for oranges. Got to keep those Gila's & Flickers fed.

#3 clay dish about 12 inches across that I let water drip into. The birds really like dripping water.

#4 you can't see it but this where the end of the dripping water tube is mounted approx. 2 feet above the clay dish.

#5 An open but screened in portion of one my automatic watering tubes.

#6 A new copper tubing I had just put in to the dripper#7 is where I am repairing the PVC pipes & valves.

*******************************************

From the back side of the ROCK pile is;

#1 the new copper tubing.
It use to be plastic but the desert critters decided they would eat it, and they did.
If they eat this copper I give up.

#2 is a pipe driven into the so I water my plants. I put one next to every transplant I did.

**************************************

Looking out of my covered area to where I hope to attract the birds with my water and & other food.

#1 is a self feeder with rabbit pellets in it. It holds 50 pounds and when ever I come back out it is empty.
I keep that large pan on it when I am gone so the rain does not get into it.

*****************************************

I guess if you were a bird, this is what you see while eating the goodies I have put out.

This was a work trip so I left the car up close so I wouldn't have to carry things far.
Also all of camouflage netting is raised up around the blind area.

The green things you see just behind my car are 6 gallon plastic water containers.
It's the only way I have to get water out there.
Plus I keep large garbage cans back there for seed & a few other things
I don't want to have to transport every time I go out there.

You wouldn't really have to be crazy to do all of this but it sure helps.

***********************************************************

Well, it's been a partially cloudy day.
The temp. only got up 110 degrees, but there a nice breeze out of the south.

The old sun is about to drop behind the mountains so I better start for home.

The sunset on the desert is some times very beautiful, it turns everything a golden brown at times.

****************************************

Sorry I got no bird photos this trip but I will in the future.

Sure had a lot of Doves today.
I guess because I was the only place that wasn't shooting at them.

I am really trying to do a post as often as I can, but if there ain't no birds
I can't take any pictures, plus I do have to do some maintenance every once in a while.

So I thought I would keep you up to snuff on that.

Come back I will get more bird photos, I hope???
