Well, once again I've headed out to the big empty.

I aim to forged those mud puddles, and miles of wash-board dirt, rut, so called roads, no matter what.
Now just maybe that's why I have to put a new RACK in the steering every year.

When I told the salesman at the Goodyear tire store I wanted 4 new Ragada tires, he ask, are you putting them on that car?
At first I didn't know what to say, well I said, if you don't want my money I shall go else where.
These are 80K mile tires and cost over $100.00 each and I suppose he figured the car (83 ford) was not worth those nice tires.
I don't dare tell'm where I go or the warrantee would not be any good because they told me no off road driving.

Finally, it has got down to just under 100 degrees in "NO WHERE".

In Arizona if the temp. gets under 100 degrees we thing it's a cold wave hitting us.

It was 98 degrees on 10/20/03 and not a breeze was moving, so it felt like 110+ degrees
and I more than likely drank 4 gallons of fluids while waiting for those birds
and or what ever else may come to visit.

If it wasn't for cold GATORADE and water
I believe a feller would dry up and blow away in a few hours out there, the humidity was 3%.

**********************

Well, hunkering down in my make shift blind at about 5:30 AM I stated my watch.
Sun up here is about 6:15 AM.
I had already cut up a dozen oranges and stuck them on the nails
I had put on the seed tray. Also turned on the dripping water devise.

Never met a bird that could resist dripping water to drink from.

***************************************************************

A new but not rare or unusual bird put in an appearance today.
A first ever for my small site.

Have seem them in the general area but they have never come to visit and drink.

It was in the very late after noon so the sun was behind the bird not making for a good photograph and I was about ready to call it quits when it showed up.

Not wanting to miss it I snapped a few images with out any fill flash so they aren't to good, but you can see what it is.

*************

OK, I'll stop talking and show you the photo.

I over exposed the print so much it blew out the
back ground so you can't see that orange is not on the birds tail.

*************************************

Now you can see that dried up orange half is on the rock and not on the tail of the bird.

OK, well, I suppose there may be a very few who do not know what bird this, so,I will tell you.

Phainopepla nittens the silky flycatcher of the desert.

This one is a male Phainopepla. The female looks the same but is a lighter color almost a grayish color.

Now back to the beginning.

The Gila Woodpeckers were out in numbers this AM
and as usual very noisy, and fighting over the oranges I had just put out.

Say, have you herd the latest about those other birds?

***********************************

OH; Don't listen those old hens, they don't know anything, anyway.

********************************

I'll just eat my fill o'these nice oranges while those other birds fight & gossip.

***********************************

I've never seen it to fail, get a bunch of those Gila's together and
you'll have more noise and gossip than you can handle.

Curve-billed thrasher keeping an eye on the Gila woodpeckers.

**************************************

If you think those Gila woodpeckers are bad, just try putting up with these finches.

Black-throated sparrow.

*********************************************

I think I will just watch from over here for a while.

************************

Boy, I'll tell ya they're a noisy bunch.

*********************************

I'll just settle for a quick drink of this nice dripping water ole
Earle has put out for us and come back later for some orange juice.

*************************************

Another first for this year to visit "No Where".

There sure are some nice seeds in that try but
I'm not going to plunge into those noisy Gila's.

White-crowned sparrow.

*************************************

Hey over there, stop your bickering and let us other birds
get in there to have some of those seeds.

************************

I think we had better stay clear of the seeds while the Gila's are here, what'ya think?

Last, but by no means the least, and in the heat of the day, plus much to my surprise
my Collared Lizard who has moved in came out for a drink.

Once before I showed you a photo of a lizard that came to drink my water.

It stayed there for at least 5 minutes getting its drink.

********************************

Well it's time to pack up the old Ford and head back to civilization for another week.

We just might get a few birds out here yet.
