High in an Ocotillo plant that has stop blooming at my site, many birds make this their first stop on their way to my water founts.

As I sat in my blind that Sunday morn, a black & white bird flew in. This is the first such colored bird I have seen out here. I could not make out what it was, so I clicked on my 400 mm lens with a 2X tele converter on it, to get a better view. I almost always use a powerful lens in stead of binoculars so if I want to photograph the bird I can.

WOW, looks like a Shrike, so I click off a couple of exposures at which time the bird flew away (I thought). Looking through an equivalent of an 800 mm lens you have sever tunnel vision. Pulling my self back from the lens to look a round I immediately saw that the bird was at my dripping water set up.

You can not see it but the dripping water set up is just in front of the bird.
Some thing must have frighten it because it flew away with out drinking.

I said this was a Shrike, but because it is summer in Arizona I would say it is a Loggerhead Shrike.

If you think I am wrong please let me know.
