Return to the Roadrunner's nest a few days later.

Sure enough the eggs have started to hatch.

Within a few minutes one of the parent birds flew back in on the nest and the other one -

I believe has detected that someone is possibly to close to the nest.

I believe this color showing is or maybe a sign of being stressed.
Stressing the birds is not my intension so I left immediately.
