Female has same plumage year round.
Top half of female's head is dark, bottom half light with a brown line separating.

Female also will lay eggs in other ducks nest.
Eats aquatic plants off bottom of lakes, eats crustaceans and aquatic insects.


Female Ruddy duck.
Note the very wide bill, almost looks like a shoveler's bill, but is shorter.
