White-eared Hummingbird
Hyocharis leucotis

********************************

Has a very predominate white stripe that extends back from the eye and down.
Has a black ear patch. Male has a dark purple crown.
Bill reddish, similar to that of a Broad-billed.
A small bird, approx. 3 1/2 inches long.

Please note in the following photos how square the tail is.

The photos that follow were taken in Miller Canyon at Tom Beatty's B&B at his public viewing area.
Miller Canyon is approx. 12 miles south east of Sierra Vista, Arizona off AZ. state highway 92.

Between mile markers 330 & 331

*****************************

Map and range not to any scale.

***********************************

To the best of my knowledge these are all male White-eared hummingbirds.

***************************************

It looks as if he is telling another bird: "Hey bud, your getting to close"
Note the raised feathers on the top of his head.
