TIRED OF PHOTOGRAPHING HUMMINGBIRDS ON THEIR FEEDERS?

TIRED OF FIGHTING THE CROWDS OF BIRD WATCHERS?

WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW OF A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN GET TO WITHIN FIVE FEET OF THE HUMMERS.

AS A MATTER OF FACT, I WAS PHOTOGRAPHING THEM THE OTHER DAY WITH A 50MM LENS ON MY CAMERA, AND ALSO WAS USING FOR SOME OF THE SHOTS, A NIKON 5000 COOL PIC DIG. CAM IN THIS VERY PLACE.

HERE'S A FEW IMAGES I GOT, NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT, BUT THEN I AM JUST A RETIRED FUN PHOTOGRAPHER KIND OF A GUY. NOT OUT TO PROVE ANYTHING, OR TRY AND SELL MY PHOTOS, JUST HAVING FUN IN MY SENIOR YEARS DOING WHAT I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO.

NOW YOUR GOING TO GET A LOOK AT THEEE PLACE.

THE ONLY PLACE LIKE IT IN THIS PART OF COUNTRY. MAYBE EVEN THE WORLD. TOM BEATTY'S VERY OWN, HAND BUILT FROM SCRATCH, EVERY ITEM CARRIED UP THE MOUNTAIN BY HAND AND MATCHLESSLY SET IN PLACED BY TOM. WHEN YOU SEE IT, YOU WILL WONDER JUST HOW HE DID IT.

A few more things before we go any farther.

First, this special Hummingbird photoing place is reserved for the guess first and foremost. However not all guest will want to photograph birds all the time they are there. So there will be times when Tom may allow the serious bird photographer to go in. But you will have to convince him you are.

Second, You don't just walk through the gate and go up the mountain. You ask permission to go in. In fact I would recommend that you ask permission long before you even make the trip to Miller Canyon. No one can really undo your day after a many hour drive to get there only to find out you can't go up the mountain to Hummingbird heaven.

Third, you had better be a died-in-the-wool, etched in stone, bird photographer. You need not necessarily be a "professional" photographer. However you better have some hard core serious photographic equipment showing. No $49.95 point and shoot cameras allowed. This place is for the serious minded photographer who would sit in one spot on a rock for hours just to get one photo.

Fourth, remember, I didn't tell you any of this, you just found it out some how. Just say if asked, a little bird told you about it. OK?

FIRST VIEW AS YOU WALK UP THE MOUNTAIN AND INTO TOM BEATTY'S COMPLETELY NATURAL HUMMINGBIRD PHOTOGRAPHIC SANCTUARY.

IF YOU WERE SITTING IN THAT BENCH AND JUST HAPPENED TO LOOK TO YOUR LEFT

THIS NEXT IMAGE IS WHAT YOU WOULD SEE.

ABSOLUTELY BREATH TAKING WOULDN'T YOU SAY?

APPLE TREES IN THE FOREGROUND, MOUNTAINS IN THE BACK GROUND, SYCAMORES ON BOTH SIDES. YOU KNOW WHAT BIRD LIKES TO HANG OUT IN SYCAMORES DON'T YOU?

IF YOU WERE IN THAT WHITE BENCH AND LOOKED STRAIGHT DOWN OR A HEAD OF YOU THIS NEXT VIEW IS WHAT YOU WOULD SEE.

New photos as of 07/07/02
These images were taken mid day so there weren't many hummer feeding. They seem to come in by the hundreds and all go away for a few minutes, it's strange but this is the way it happens.

Coming in from the path behind the viewing area.

Looking down the mountain into the area where the hummingbird feeders hang.

I believe there is approximately 2 dozen feeders out at all times.

Closer view of the area down by the picnic table.

AS YOU CAN PLAINLY SEE, I ALL READY HAVE MY CAMERAS SET UP, AND AM IN THE PROCESS OF CAPTURING THE PHOTOS YOU HAVE JUST BEEN VIEWING. ALSO NOTE THE SMALL WATER HOLE LEFT CENTER, IT ATTRACTS OTHER BIRDS. YOU ALSO MAY MOVE OR REMOVE THE FEEDERS AS YOU SEE FIT. IN THE MORNING IT'S SHADED. IN THE AFTERNOON YOU MAY HAVE TO MOVE AROUND TO KEEP IN THE SHADE. LATER ON IN THE DAY TOWARD LATE AFTERNOON IT'S ALL SHADED AGAIN.

THERE JUST ISN'T ANOTHER PLACE LIKE THIS ANY WHERE.

BE SURE TO TELL HIM (TOM) BEFORE YOU LEAVE JUST HOW MUCH YOU APPRECIATE ALL OF HIS VERY HARD WORK, JUST SO YOU CAN PHOTOGRAPH THE BIRDS.
