As I had said previously we could see the
parent birds bringing food to the nest. This was a sure indication that there were live chicks in the nest.

While the parent birds were away catching more food we moved in very quickly and set up our cameras. Each camera was radio controlled so we did not have to be at the nest location in order to photograph the feeding of the chicks.

We noted that the parent birds were staying away for up to 30 minutes. This allowed us the opportunity to get a look into the nest. Using our digital camera we were able to get a few quick images before the parent birds returned for another feeding. We also noticed that many times the parent would bring food to big to feed to the chicks. After trying several times to feed it the parent would eat the bug and go off to find more food.

Please view images below to see nest images, and food to big to be eaten.

Two of the chicks did not survive. Also, the dead chick was gone from the nest the
day after it had died. It must have been carried away by the parent birds because
if it would have been a predator all of the chicks would have been gone.

Parents brought food to the nest to big to be eaten by the chicks.
