Driving the Highways & Byways
of Arizona with Earle Robinson as he searches for Arizona Wild Life

I just can't seem to stay away from the Grand Canyon.
I can remember the 1965 Robert Wise's song and movie
"The Sound of Music"
So I have decided to call this trip to the Grand Canyon
THE SOUNDS OF NUTCRACKERS

The next morning I went back to my favorite photographing spot only to find the Squirrels had decided to occupy the bare branch sticking out over the canyon wall. The sun was not quite in the right place for good photographing yet but I snapped a few images any way.
While walking/climbing to my photoing spot I noticed this. Now at my age many times thing do not appear to be what they really are, so, I had to stop and do a double take on this one.
However, I have decided that being old is much better than the alternative :-))
Keep an open mind in looking at this and see if it doesn't look like some strange critter.
Scroll Down. I have put some space in here so you would not see the image until you scrolled down to it.

Gee, these rocks and dirt sure aren't very tasty

O'well on to the Squirrels
It nabbed something outa my camera bag and scurried out on that branch to eat it.
More than likely it was a sunflower seed I had dropped in there.
These guys can find anything if it's food.

I think I had better rest a bit before going back, OK?

Violet-green
Swallows
These very small 5 inches in length birds, that probably don't weigh any more
than 30 to 50 grams each, are in the air flying and catching flying insects
about 99% of the time during the day, so if you see one perched it's really your very luckiest day.
After the Squirrels had vacated the bare branch I was focused on,
guess what came to perch; yes you guessed it,
a Violet-green Swallow.
I just could not believe it, however while not believing it
I just went ballistic with the camera shutter mechanism.
My camera will take 7 & 1/2 exposures a second, that means I can expose a 36 exposure roll of film in a matter of 5+ seconds and I do that quite often if I get a chance to photograph something that is rare for me to photo.
I guess I had better stop talking and show these cute little birds.

I haven't put any text under the images because there's nothing I could say to enhance them.
