PHAINOPEPLA
[ nitens ]
Silky-Flycatchers. Family Ptilogonatidae.
Phainopepla is both the scientific and the common name of our representative of the family of silky flycatchers. It comes from the Greek meaning "shining robe," in reference to its plumage. Its specific name is Phainopepla nitens, which makes it redundant, since the trivial name, nitens, also means "shining" this time in Latin.
