I believe this bird could possibly be seen in any of this range year round.

While visiting the South Rim of the Grand Canyon for 5 days in September 06, on the the second day it started raining

PINE SISKINS

Figuratively speaking that is, of course.

I was walking along the rim side walk out in front of the Bright Angel Lodge going East towards the El Tovar Lodge.

I was looking over the wall in all of the bushes, trees, shrubs, or what ever I could see for any type of bird life I could photograph.

Out of the clear blue sky they came, first just a few, them more, and more, and before you knew it there were hundreds & hundreds, who knows maybe even zillions :-)). They were on every bush, tree, and every thing they could perch on.

I have never been a situation when I didn't know which way to point my camera.

I pointed my camera Left. I pointed my camera to the right. I pointed my cametra up. I pointed my camera down.

The Pine Siskins were just all around.
Only having my 80 to 400 mm lens with me I could not get photos on the many that were all on a single branch.

The beautiful back ground is the adjacent canyon wall some 2000 feet away with the afternoon sun on it.

For some reason the digital cameras deal with back grounds much different than film cameras.

Mom or dad is feeding its youngster.

Like I told you they were all over the place. It will be difficult to get just one on a branch.

How many birds can you count in this image. Be careful now, don't go to fast.

There exactly 6 Pine Siskins in the above photo.

You say you missed one, go back and do a recount.

There is one that's really hid.

I do believe this bird is in mid air. I thought I photographed it on that branch.

Try to find its feet.

******************************************

It these birds can perch on a pine needle they can't weigh more than 30 grams if that.

***************************************************

I always like to see a nice back view of the birds I photograph.

***************************************************

There's that canyon wall again.

*************************************************

When you use fill-flash some times it causes the back ground to go black.

Sure hope you have enjoyed the Pine Siskins as much as I have.
