A small Wren or Thrush like bird but a bit smaller.
Tail sticks straight up most of the time. It walks not like other birds hopping.

Note the large eye with the white eye ring. Also note the head markings.
If at first when you see one and think it's a Hermit Thrush look at the head markings.

Also note the greenish colored back feathers.

This bird was photographed in the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens 12/24/05.

I have put a lot of photos on here because this is a rare bird for Phoenix, Arizona any time of the year.

Ovenbird

Hermit Thrush

You say how could anyone confused the two birds? :-))

Well, while taking these photos many of the on lookers thought the Hermit was the Ovenbird.
It ( Hermit) came out first so I took many photos of it.
And I could hear them say, OH, look there's the Ovenbird.
A quick glance at the front only might confused an unknowledgeable birder and
sometimes we forget to look at all of the bird before we make an ID.

Upon a close examination of the two birds I believe the Hermit has a different stance but may even be a bit larger bird.

In extremely poor lighting and other poor conditions here are a few views of the OVENBIRD

I have tried to show the bird from almost every angle.

Just a few more taken 12/28/05 and 01/01/06 same place

You can see the green in this image.

This bird looked under every leaf in order to find food.

Depending on the light the greenish back feathers may show green and or some times not.

***********************************************************

It kept returning to this rock every so often, why I don't know. Perhaps it gave a better view of the surrounding area

***********************************************************

It's very difficult to tell you just how small this bird is, even in this image the bird is smaller than in the photo.

One week later 01-16-06

This is the Hermit Thrush

Hey Earle, that ole Ovenbird has flown off and left me here all alone.
