This is a strange Meadowlark as you will see.

I believe this an Eastern Meadowlark.
I find it very difficult to tell them apart.
The head seems to be darker in the area under and behind the eye.

However the V-shaped breast band does resemble that of a Western.

If you will note the extra long bill.

I am showing these images because I want to show how it was able to get food.

I would guess the beak to be a good 6 inches long.
The lower half of the beak ( the Mandible) is approximately half
the length of the upper beak (the Maxilla).

Most of the time it get down on its belly to scoop up seeds from the ground.

These photos were taken in Marion Paton's back yard in Patagonia, Arizona.
