The Loon was so close to the dock at times, I could not get the complete bird in my viewfinder on the camera.
So, I guess the first images I will show are close ups of the Loons head.
As it says in the books "the *culmen is straight thus making the bill look as though it is slightly tilted upwards."
*culmen is the top have of the birds bill. The Yellow-billed Loon is the rarest of all of our Loons. To find this Loon in Arizona is almost unbelievable.

If you know me, or know how I photograph birds, you will know I always try to photograph them from every angle I can. Unfortunately I haven't learn how to communicate this the any of the birds I have photographed.

Well, what do think? Is this not a very beautiful bird?

The next set of images you are about to view happened in just a few seconds, and this is why the bird was so hard to photograph. Many times I would push the shutter release and not get an image of the bird because it just wasn't there when the shutter functioned.

This set of images probably all took place in 2 to 3 seconds once the bird decided to dive.
Inasmuch as it took 7 images to show this, we had better put then a new page.
Please wait for all of the images to load.
