This is the way the feeding routine generally started out. A bird would fly to the top of one of the cactus arms, pause for a minuet or two, them fly down to the nest and feed the chicks. I say generally this is the way it was done. Occasionally the a bird would fly directly into the nest to feed the young, possible once out of every 4 to 5 times it came to the nest to feed the young.
