If you have ever seen a Dove's nest, you would perhaps wonder how there can be so many Doves.
I would have to say that a Dove's nest is an almost nest.
By that I mean, it is just a very few sticks thrown together on a limb or branch.
Some times with almost nothing to build it on as in building it on a fork like many other birds do.
In fact, I have seen Doves lay their eggs on a large forked limb with no nest material at all.

Doves make skimpy nest.
Wonder why they call these D/D's

You may not be able to see it, or even believe it, but the white arrow is pointing to an Inca Dove's nest, If you can call it that? Photographed in the Park in Youngtown, Arizona. The photo is deceiving, the height under the arc is over 7 feet high.
Putting up my 6 foot ladder some 20 feet away, so as not to frighten the bird off the nest, and using a telephoto lens, I could see there was a bird on the nest. At least I think there is a nest under that bird. At least the Dove thinks it's a nest, and that's all that counts in this case. I had no idea how long the nest had been there, or how long the bird had been sitting on it. I'll just have to wait to see what is under her/him as the case may.
Later on that day, just before sunset I came back to the nest sight. The orangish color is caused by the late after noon sun and I didn't bother to filter for the color change.

Well, I can see there 3 chicks in the nest. To help you see them I have put an arrow and numbers in the photo. By the way, this is one the most complete Inca Dove nest I have ever seen. But, as you can see it is still not to good, and is built right on a bare limb. These chicks did not make it to adult hood. One by one they fell out of the nest before it was their time to leave the nest.

In another location not to far from the above nest, I found another Dove nest. At first I didn't know if it was an Inca Dove's nest, but suspected it was. That feather in the nest gave it away.
Hum, is this my nest? Let's see if it fits.
Perfect fit. I think I try to hatch these eggs.
I never did see a bird come to this nest. Finally one morning the eggs were gone. More than likely they made a nice meal for some predator, I would guess.
