RED CROSSBILL
lOXIA CURVIROSTRA

*****************************************
A realitive small bird about 6 inches in length.
Note the very tip on its bill. They are crossed. I am quite sure this is a male Crossbill.
The females are yellowish olive with a gray throat, also may show red patches.
There's also a White-winged Crossbill and it has white wing bars.

Photographed at Jacob Lake Arizona in/on a gas station drive.
Jacob Lake is where you would turn South to go to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
August 2005
Camera. Nikon D70 - Lens Tamron 70 to 300 mm I think.
E-mail Celia at; celia30@pocketmail.com for more information on this bird.

A few images I took while watching a water hole at the
Canyon's South Rim and just South of Tusayan a few miles off State route 64 and then West on road 306.

At first I thought this was a Black-headed Grosbeak.

As you can see there are 2 Townsend's Solitaire and an American Robin in the photo.
