INDIGO BUNTING

The root of the "Indigo" in Indigo Bunting is the same as "Indian".
It refers to the subcontinent that is the source of the bluish plant dye bearing the same name.

Ref. "The Birders Handbook" by Paul R. Ehrlich, David S. Dobkin, and Darryl Wheye.
