The Petrified Forest National Park Arizona revisited
August 2004

**************************************************************

As I had mentioned a while back you can some times see where a limb had been broken off.
In the photo below I have put in an arrow pointing to a place where it use to be on the petrified log.

*************************************

Here's another one, this time I will let you find the palce where there the limb broke off.

*************************************

Here's one where you can still see the part of the branch.

********************************

As you walk along be sure to look in the holes you see in the petrified logs,
you never know what type of a critter may be using it as a home.

There are many types of Lizards & Harris' Antilope Squirrels
that are always looking for an unused hole to crawl into.

**********************************************************

A Lizard ran into this hole, I waited about 30 minutes but it did not come back out, so I went on.
However when walking around the area about an hour later, it did come out and get on a flat rock to sun.

*****************************

Found him.

It was on the top of the petrified wood piece a couple of feet away.
It's a Western Wiptail Lizard

******************************

About 30 minutes later I ran across this one.

Collared Lizard in full breeding colors.
I have never seen one this brightly colored.

I would never have seen this one except that there were about a dozen tourest standing around the piece of petrified wood looking at it.
I did not have a tele photo lens, so looking around at all of the people I noticed one person had a Nikon camera and a 300 mm zoom lens.
One problem, he could not speak english, he was from Germany.
I simply took off my lens handed it to him and pointed to his lens
and then to my camera and he under stood (I think) what I wanted.
In a few seconds he took off his lens and handed to me so I could take the above photo.

***********************************

Just another pretty piece of petrified wood.

****************************************

Here are a couple of pieces that look like real wood.
