flowers and plants of the deserts, blooms, flowers, plants.arizona deserts

As you travel the highways and byways of Arizona you will see many of these plants. When not in bloom you may over look them. When in bloom they produce a very large funnel shaped flower, this is what you will notice.

One of a genus (Datura) Of rank smelling. Poisonous plants of the nightshade family, with large funnel shaped flowers and a prickly capsule, of which the Jimson-weed is best known. It yields several important alkaloids, as atropine and scopolamine. Also may be called Jimp-son weed, also Jamestown weed because it was first observed in Jamestown, VA.

This is the largest one I have seen in Arizona.
It covered an area of about 12 feet wide by 10 feet front to back.
