Arizona Wild Bird Photos

IN NO WHERE DESERT ARIZONA

I think I will change the name to

HELL ARIZONA

May 24, 2003

*******************************************************************

THE DRINKERS STARTED TO ARRIVE.

By now it was about 6:00 AM. and getting hotter by the minute.

That's 100 degrees.

**************************************************************

At this temperature I did not want to scare off any wild life from getting a drink of water.
So, being the nice guy that I am, I left the old water dish alone.
I got out the cameras, got under my camouflage netting and put a wet towel over my head
in order to try and keep my body temp. at a livable level.
The only trouble was, the towel dried out in about 30 minutes, but it sure was cool during that 30 minutes.
This means that every 25 to 30 minutes I had to resoak it.
I am sure glad I have a 100 gallons plus water supply on hand out there.

********************************************************************

The DRINKERS started to come in one by one.
But then it turned into a ROYAL free for all.

I'll tell'ya wild life has no manners at all.

The time is 7:30 AM and temp. is;

104+ DEGREES

****************************************************

The thermometer was not in the direct sunlight.
It was hung under a mail box I have on the site with CD's and site information in it.

Quite by accident there seems to be a few birders that have found this place.

So far no vandalism and someone left me a $20 bill in the almost empty feed can.
Many thanks to who ever you are. Every little bit sure helps.

************************************

OK, need to resoak my towel and then will get down to photographing those drinkers.

For those of you who would venture out to do photography on the desert in these temperatures,
I would advise putting a dry towel around your camera & a wet one over your head.

The first sign of sun/heat stroke/exhaustion is, dizziness & or chills.
Always keep your head covered when out in the sun.

****************************

I wonder if I might sneak up to the water and get a drink before the crowd arrives?

*****************************

Looks like I'm in luck so far that is. Better start drinking quickly.

***************************

OH, this is so good.

Actually the rabbit was drinking the water faster than than the pan could refill its self.
That's why its head is so far down in the pan.

This is a 4 quart pan and it drank half the water in zip time.

******************************************************

Maybe I had take another quick drink before the others get here.

**********************************

As you can see the water has not refilled yet because he drank it all just a few minutes ago.

***********************************

I might as well give it up for now. The crowd is arriving.

*******************************

The fight for the water is on.
