Arizona Bird Field Data Resources

This site contains collected images, sound recordings, and explanatory text about Arizona birds. Most of the material has been gathered during work on the Arizona Breeding Bird Atlas project (ABBA) administered by Arizona Game and Fish. A collection is usually a sound recording or photograph, and some text, that explains the significance of the material presented. Sometimes both photos and sound recordings are included in the same collection. This copyrighted material may be freely distributed for non-commercial purposes so long as mirror-pole.com, and all the authors of the material, are credited with its production. Commercial users must check with us to verify that the material can be used by them before it is redistributed.

ERIC WEIS

http://western-alliance.net/cabriloboy/

Currently employed as a field assistant in northern Arizona on a California Condor, Gymnogyps californianus, reintroduction project. Duties include: Monitoring and tracking the movements of condors using radio telemetry, GPS units, and four-wheel drive trucks. Taking detailed behavioral notes in the field and from blinds of both free-flying and captive condors. Caring of captive condors. Handling condors to collect blood samples for lead chelation, West Nile Virus inoculation, and to attach radio and/or GPS transmitters. Public education regarding the project and condors. Driving ATVs. Data entry. The job also involves camping above the Vermilion Cliffs and much independent work in often remote and rugged areas of Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, and other areas of Northern Arizona and Southern Utah. The ultimate goal of this ongoing project is the establishment of self-sustaining wild populations of these birds in the southwestern United States and northern Baja California, Mexico.

If you have ever been to South Rim of the Grand Canyon you may have seen him, he's waving a small TV like antenna back and forth.
I ask him what he was doing the first time I met him, his answer was, "I'm looking for intelligent life forms" Well, I said, have you found any yet?
I'll let you ponder what his answer was.

Actually he was tracking or listening for a radio signal that the transmitters attached to the Condors wings sends out.
This is way the Peregrine Fund keeps track of where the Condors are.

Please visit his site you will find it quite interesting.
