While at the South Rim of the Grand for a couple of weeks in August 05 I really enjoyed the Ravens.
One day I decided to eat my lunch in a wooded area where there were some picnic tables.
I no sooner sat down when a couple of Ravens flew in and started to beg for food.
After a few minutes I noticed that someone had nailed a suet block cage on a couple of trees in this area.
*********************************************
I could see much of the suet had been eaten but there were no birds around except the Ravens.
Now I just knew those big old Ravens could never hover in mid air and peck away at those suet blocks, or could they?
*******************************************************
OH ya, they see it alright
*****************************************
I thing it was telling me to get the suet block down.
*****************************************
I sure don't know it was says but it sure was loud.
**********************************************
I don't know what this game was all about, but inasmuch as it could not get me to take the suet down I guess it was going to throw a stone at me.
***************************
I guess if you were a Raven you just might kow what this stone stuff is all bout
*****************************
In a few minutes it did stop picking the stone. I guess it figured I was to dumb to know it was trying say.
******************************
Inasmuch as I was not going to it, the bird made an attemp to fly up to the suet.
Well it tried.
***********************************
and tried
***********************************
and -- I think it is about to give up. It's really breathing hard as if it has been using alot of energy.
************************************
It pecked so quick at the cage I could not get a photo.
As you see it did get a very small piece in its bill.
****************************************
I think I am finally getting the hange of it.
********************************************
OH, so close.
****************************************
Whew, I really need some R&R.
**************************************
OH, I think I am on top of things now.
****************************************
Maybe this is the way to approach it.
*********************************************
OPPS I really missed it this time, guess I am getting tired.
********************************
Another miss, this is getting embarrassing. It's truely time for a rest.
*****************************************
Just then another Raven flew in to see what was going on.
What's goin on up there anyway?
***********************************************
To tellya true I think that bird has gone bonkers.
********************************************
Hey, all the rest of you birds come on over and what the crazy bird try to eat the suet.
******************************************
I'll show'm, I ani't givin up yet.
***********************************
Now it I can just work my way over a little closer without falling I'll show'm
***********************************
If'n it's OK with you all I'll just sit here a spell and watch the show.
*****************************************
I'll bet your sure gettin some darn good pictures.
*************************************
We'll just let old crazy keep kockin small pieces down, I an't tryin to fly up there to get that suet.
**************************************************
Ya see I told I would finally get the hange of it. Now for some good ole suet.
*****************************************
WOW, I could have stayed here all day taking pictures,
but I had better get back over to the canyon's edge to see what birds have flown in since I left.
***********************************************
